WHAT INDIAN YOUTHS’ GOVERNMENT JOBS ASPIRATIONS TELL ABOUT INDIA
WHAT INDIAN YOUTHS’ GOVERNMENT JOBS ASPIRATIONS TELL ABOUT
INDIA
“A man willing to work and unable to find work is perhaps the
saddest sight that fortune’s inequality exhibits under the sun”.

The Indian society is believed to be a progressive society,
which is not untrue. When it comes to aspiring for good education, health, jobs
and ease of living, Indians are not far behind the people of developed
countries.
Although ambitious, Indian society, particularly the middle
class has its flaws.
An average Indian youngster often covets a stable government
job when they are in high school or college. Suppose you visit the areas of Old
Rajender Nagar in Central Delhi and Mukherjee Nagar in North Delhi. In that
case, you will encounter thousands of young people rushing to IAS (INDIAN
ADMINISTRATIVE SERVICES, earlier known as Indian Civil Services) Coaching
Centers and discussing their IAS aspirations at tea stalls and bookstores.
Nearly a million candidates each year apply for the UPSC Exams
that employ not more than a thousand candidates, with IAS jobs accounting for
only 200.
The Indian youth spend years cracking the much-coveted UPSC
Exams that open the door to IAS jobs.
The stories of IAS aspirants studying 18 hours a day for years
to crack their beloved IAS Exams and still failing are not unheard of.
My readers might wonder why there is so much craze among the
Indian Youth for the IAS Exams.
Success at IAS is perceived as a path to billions of Indian
Rupees (ill-gotten through corruption) among the Indian middle-class youth.
The UPSC Exams of India are one of the greatest gambles in the
country that harbours ambitions of becoming the next China.
The Indian youth crave more Government jobs besides the IAS
jobs and waste the most critical phase of their life, too.
The only motivation for non-UPSC government jobs is tens of
millions of Indian Rupees worth of ill-gotten money through corruption.
The Optimistic Journalist does not intend to brand all
Government Employees as corrupt. Still, there is an overwhelming number of dishonest
government employees in India, as perceived widely among the Indian middle
class.
The opposition leaders often propagate a notion among the
Indians that youth are unemployed and PM Modi is not creating government jobs
for the children, particularly the IAS jobs.
None of the above-stated is unread, unheard of or unseen for
the Indians.
But the truth is more profound than what meets the eye. To
understand this, let us dive deep into the Unemployment scenario in India ever
since PM Modi took charge of the country.
The modern-day world is swiftly moving towards Artificial
Intelligence and Automation in jobs. The experts belonging to Business
Journalism opine that Artificial Intelligence will ensure many semi-skilled
jobs do not require humans. But they also opine that Artificial Intelligence
will create more jobs than it kills, particularly jobs with new skill sets. But
that is not the reason to worry about for Indians.
The reason to worry about this is that Automation in
manufacturing jobs in the next ten years will eliminate the jobs by half the
present. India, under The BJP leadership, aspires to become a
manufacturing-dominated economy. This may or may not come true, but the jobs
will be half the present given that Automation is becoming more prevalent in
Manufacturing.
To add to India’s problems is India’s exploding population.
To make sure that Indians are not unemployed any more, India
needs to create more entrepreneurs than potential employees. For this, the current
Government appears to be facilitating the establishment of more and more
businesses and should continue doing the same if India wants to become an
Economic giant.
The Optimistic Journalist leaves the answer to whether the
current government is doing the needful to the Indian populace.
The Indian youth demand a developed India each time a
politician makes promises in the elections but wants government jobs, which may
ruin this dream.
What the young Indians blinded by ambitions for government
jobs and nothing else are doing is precisely the opposite of what is needed.
The misguided Indian youth selectively ignore the fact
that the youth of China, South Korea, Japan, Germany, France, Britain, and The
USA (the most developed countries of the world) do not seek government jobs or
even private jobs but long for setting up their businesses (even if they have a
small budget) and work towards the same goal. The developed world has the power
to employ people because they build entrepreneurs.
The Optimistic Journalist strongly opines here that the Indian
youth do not have a vision beyond government jobs and need to learn from the
developed world, which is a constructive criticism of the former.
